Christmas 2008

Had a wonderful White Christmas here in Farmington. In my youth our family had a tradition of a Christmas Eve Fondue dinner. So, Deb got our very own fondue pot. Aside from being splattered with boiling oil, it was delicious. Sometimes Christmas's are huge family affairs with throngs of giggling kids, friends, and family. Exhaustion from preparations and cooking sometimes can take the edge off the Christmas Spirit. Other times, like this year, we stay close to home and keep it simple. Our girls will remember their childhood Christmas's, and our boys their's, and each memory will be as pleasant as they are different.
Here is the hanging family photo display, inspired by Niner, that I made for Deb.
Brian and Logan hanging their stockings with care, or something like that.
The Magical Glow of Christmas.
You've probably read about the tremendous dump of Global Warming that has hit most of the country this winter, and our area is no exception. The boys and I went skiing at Purgy Christmas eve and had a blast. Christmas day we spent the night with friends at Purgy, after a harrowing 3 hr, 4WD drive through blowing drifts of global warming. Deb was going to drive back that night, but the car was buried under about 2 ft of G.W., so she wisely stayed with us, and we dug her out this morning. We skiied in near white out conditions, even the groomed runs had a foot of fresh Global Warming. The boys are really becoming great skiers, and soon will surpass their old man. The high (or Low) point of the day was Brian's ride off the mountain in a Ski Patrol toboggan after tweaking his knee "getting some air" as he is wont to say. Seems to be limping around OK now, so he may be back on the slopes. Hope your Christmas's are as pleasant as ours.

Logan's 2008 championship wrestling

Logan is the undisputed CHAMPION of the 167 wt class! He pinned his opponents in both matches at the Basin JV invitational. And doesn't he look marvelous in his singlet!
As a personal aside, I have wasted way too much of my ever decreasing future try to convert a video of the triumphant Logan from the .3p2 format to a .avi or .mpeg format that can be uploaded to the blog. If anyone dares to try to "walk me thru" the procedure, thereby raising the false hope that a few more hours of my life will be more fulfilling than the last few, I will open up google earth, enter your coordinates, click the "firebolts from heaven" icon, and smite you to the dust!

Maui Wowie

Ok, the post title has really nothing to do with these pictures. We did go to Maui with Deb's bro John & his wife Bonnie. Stayed in their timeshare on the Kaanapali coast. Here's a shot of Deb on top of Haleakela, where it was DANG cold for Hawai'i. Went snorkling right of the resort beach. Great reef, mucho wildlife, fishes of every sort, turtles, manta rays, we were even stung by jellies!
Here's a shot of me dressing down a cocky waiter at the luau. Ya know, livin' in paradise just makes some people a little too relaxed. Unfortunately, that tan is starting to fade.

More Vacation fun

On the Catalina Ferry
Yosemite Village
Big trees at Yosemite

The Beckinator had been a little afraid of the water until Grandpa showed him how fun the water can be. Now Mom's gonna have a hard time keeping him dry!

Sisters together again in Yosemite.

Summer Vacation with the Fam

Finally! A real live summer vacation! Pack up the car, load the roof rack, sort out the scratched dvd's & clean the stale skittles from under the seats.
Then off to LA! Oh, wait, $4.30 a gallon, you sure about this?

A long hot 14 hr drive, made it to El Segundo. Our hotel was a short walk to Niner & Nate's place.

We had a fine time at Dizzyland. Weather was perfect, crowds not too bad.

The family all together for the Blessing of young Marley Anne Arnold. Blessed by Nate, Logan honored to hold the microphone.

Niner's got guts taking 2 babies camping by herself. They did great. Who needs a sleeping bag anyway?

Logan was fascinated by Marley's little hands.

There's no place like home! (Oregon)

The Three Amigos. Pony tails for everyone!

Our home in Springfield! It was fun to go back and see
the mature landscape. It has been 8 years since we left.
It turned out just like I'd imagined.

It's been a hard days night, and I've been sleeping like a dog!
